THE RETURN TO VENICE

Yesterday it was time to say goodbye to my first group at Lake Maggiore – not to mention my beautiful wife Luciana Franzolin – and head back to Venice to meet with the second Insight Vacations Picture Perfect group with Sharon Tooman as our Tour Director.
After a wonderful Magical Venice tour at night last night, I made it a point to wake up early and catch the first rays of the sun. The old Golden Hour where the orange-red colours are more prevalent.

I am glad to be back to Venice, as I can revisit some places for the second time, giving me a chance to maybe get a few better shots than before. And, of course, waking up early allowed me to move around the usually tourist-packed streets of this beautiful city and see it slowly wake up with the morning light.

More gondolas, more weddings, but I especially enjoyed the photo of the old man in St Mark Square. He had an air about him of elegance and confidence, dressed in his 40s suit, he walked with his cane and his little dog and seemed to not care that I was taking his photo. Enjoy.

Venice

The first two days of the Italy Picture Perfect Tour in Venice have been great!
In the first night, we were introduced by the Tour director Francis to our students, a group of 37 people from every part of the world, very eager to learn photography with us.

We had the chance to know a little about them during the welcome drink night at the Skyline Bar. Breathtaking views of Venice from the 8th floor of the Hilton Stucky Hotel, where we have stayed for two nights.

On day 2, the World Photo School booklets arrived from the printers and we had a “meet and greet” session with the students in the morning. We talked about image size and quality and also taught them about file formats and workflow.

After the class we visited a traditional glass making factory and had the chance to see a glass blowing master at work. Incredible and beautiful stuff. Venetian glass is famous worldwide and it was a truly unique experience.
In the afternoon we went to a “hidden Venice” sightseeing tour with a local guide. A fantastic city with countless spots and opportunities for great shots.

The last night in Venice ended with a lovely dinner at a traditional Venetian restaurant. Great food, great wine and great company.

Today we are off to the Dolomites, a mountain range located in the northern Italian Alps, which was declared a UNESCO world heritage site in 2009.

Keep up with us and our adventure.
